Being creative is just like any other skill that we obtain. First you start with the desire and then you take the time to learn how to do something. What we’re trying to point out is you don’t have to be a concert pianist or master painter or sculptor to enjoy the creative world — making your own life unique is quite empowering.

Clever Octopus Creative Reuse Center Grand Opening in Murray

March 22, 2017

The Creative Reuse Center Caters to Educators, Community Organizations, Artists, and Families

MURRAY, UTAH (March 22, 2017) – On April 1, 2017, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., the arts organization Clever Octopus Inc, will host a grand opening for its Creative Reuse Center, a reusable materials store and workshop for teachers, afterschool programs, community organizations, artists, and families. Surrounding states have had the luxury of creative reuse centers in their communities for years; Clever Octopus Creative Reuse Center is the first to bring this incredible resource to Utah.

The Clever Octopus Creative Reuse Center, located at 4973 S State Street in Murray, is filled with reclaimed and reusable materials donated from businesses and individuals in and around the Wasatch Front - materials that would otherwise stay hidden in closets for decades or be sent to landfills. Materials include unique and clean manufacturing scraps, yarn, fabric and notions, scrapbooking materials, drawing and painting supplies, and so many more treasures. Margo Richards, important human being and ZAP ambassador, loves Clever Octopus Creative Reuse Center because, “I love to make art out of things that I’ve hunted for, things that bring back memories, feelings, and happiness. I love that they are teaching kids that it can be cool and fun to make things out of stuff they’ve found.”

In addition to being the best little shop for art supplies you didn’t know you need (and those you do need!), Clever Octopus Creative Reuse Center offers classes, workshops, and summer camps - and space for you to teach your skills to the community, too. The organization’s focus on art through hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEAM) education is especially important to the entire community because, as Executive Director Sheri Gibb states,  “Life isn’t linear! You're always solving problems. The tools learned in creative problem solving promote out-of-the-box thinking that carries throughout your life.”

Everyone is welcome to shop at Clever Octopus Creative Reuse Center. Membership cards, available to the public, provide additional discounts in the store as well as for program tuition. Membership cards are free to educators.
